Joe Haas

August 5, 1939 — April 19, 2026

Joe Haas-a man who truly never met a stranger and was undeniably one of the "good guys"-passed away peacefully in Toledo, Ohio, on April 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 5, 1939, to Paul and Helen (Benner) Haas of Point Place, Joe lived a life defined by craftsmanship, humor, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was a man of immense talent and a multifaceted spirit. A retired service man for Columbia Gas of Ohio, Joe hung up his professional tool belt 30 years ago but never actually stopped working with his hands.

Whether he was sketching a drawing, coloring with his grandchildren, building from scratch, or meticulously restoring a vintage car or boat, Joe was a true artist. If he put his mind to a project, it was done with precision and heart. He could fix almost anything, a skill matched only by his humble nature.

In his younger years, Joe was a fixture of local clubs and the sporting scene. He was a proud member of the Riverview and Ottawa River Yacht Clubs during his boating days and a dedicated member of the Oak Park Gang Car Club. His competitive spirit and natural athleticism earned him numerous awards in golf and softball leagues, diving competitions, and boat and car shows. When he wasn't competing himself, he was a fervent supporter of his grand-children's activities and favorite sports teams..., never missing a chance to cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.

While his accomplishments were many, Joe's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a kind and generous soul who loved deeply and was loved by many in return. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his significant other, Carol Ladd, who loved him dearly and shared many years of laughter and special memories by his side.

Joe is survived by his children: Jeff (Dawn) Haas, Tracey (Mike) Plenzler, Kelley Haas, and Bruce Ladd; his grandchildren: Ashley (Coilin) Walsh, Alissa Plenzler, Autumn Dracz, Lauren (Don) Meyer, Kristy (Justin) Ladd, Zach (Casie) Ladd, Jesse, and Charles Navarro; and his great-grandchildren: Maeve, Eleanor, and Ronan Walsh; Wyatt, Westen, and Ryan Ladd; and Lincoln and Myles Meyer. He also leaves behind his favorite special cousin, Therese Jaqua, and his loyal four-legged buddy, Charlie, his King Charles Cavalier. Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

A quintessential storyteller-witty, funny, and honorable-Joe was a friend to everyone he met. His absence leaves a void that can only be filled by the fond memories and "Joe stories" that will undoubtedly be told for generations.
