Frederic Ralph Burdo, age 80, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at St. Lukes Hospital. A lifelong resident of Maumee, he was born to Ralph and Lila Burdo on May 14, 1931. Fred was a 1949 graduate of Maumee High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Baldwin and they would have been married 60 years on December 1st. Fred was a wonderful father to his five children; Claudia Daniel Stein, Rebecca Gary Davenport, Matthew Burdo, Julie David Lenart, and Peter Jeanette Burdo. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard, Fred served his country in the 1950s as a member of the 555th Air Force Band. For 44 years he served his community as a member of the Maumee Fire Department, the last 12 years as Fire Chief retiring in 1996. Fred and his brother, Dick operated the family business, Burdo Plumbing and Heating for many years. Fred and Sue traveled extensively after his retirement. He loved working on his house and in his yard. He also enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, Ohio State Football, and his wifes blueberry pie. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, his children and his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Fred is survived by his three sisters; Laura Sherrouse, Helen Womack, and Marilyn Dean; and brother, Richard Burdo. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Burdo, Thelma Sechler and Naomi Bryant. Family and friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 2-8 pm with a Fire Department service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at Maumee United Methodist Church 405 Sackett St. Maumee. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. The family would like to express a special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the CVU at St. Lukes Hospital for their care and kindness.
