Fred Dewey Farringer

February 18, 1929 — December 13, 2014

Fred D. Farringer, age 85,  passed away on December 13, 2014, after many long battles with a very rare neurological disease, cortico basal degeneration.  Fred died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife Anna, his daughter Nancy and many other family members.  He was born on February 18, 1929 in Rossford, Ohio to Dewey and Esther Farringer.  He graduated from Perrysburg High School.  Fred was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and was proud of his service for our country.  He retired from Libbey Owens Ford after 40 years, and then worked for 15 years more delivering supplies for medical labs.  He also worked with the Ohio Highway Patrol as an auxiliary officer. Fred loved music and played the alto saxophone in the Maumee Community Band for many years.  More recently he also played in the Sylvania Center Band.  He was the oldest living Past Commander of the American Legion Post #320.  He loved cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Some of his hobbies were singing in the Maumee Valley Barbershop Chorus, SPEBSQSA.  Fred was a man who could fix anything and he built a boat, The Fancy  Nancy, in his garage, which he used on Lake Erie.  Fred was a 50 year member of Maumee United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. In 1952 Fred married Mary Beale and they were married 47 years and they had 5 children. In 2002, Fred married his second wife, Anna, and they were married 12 years.  They have been devoted to each other and felt they were very blessed to have found each other. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary, his oldest daughter, Mary, his youngest son, Timothy and his brothers, Jerry and Robert.  Fred is survived by his loving wife Anna, and his children, Fred of Oak Harbor, his daughter, Nancy Farringer-Araujo of Long Beach, California, his son, Robert (Patricia) of Maumee, his brother George (Carol) of Greensboro, North Carolina, 8 grandchildren, many step-children and step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of many kind friends and neighbors who gave their support and love. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their care of Fred.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio 43537.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maumee United Methodist Church, Maumee, Ohio.  Interment will be held in Ft. Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Maumee United Methodist Church.
