Frank Matyas, 93, of Oregon, Ohio, died Sunday evening, January 14, 2018, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, in Oregon. Frank was born September 18, 1924, in Hicksville, Ohio, to Antonin and Maria (Tomek) Matyas. On June 4, 1950, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, he married Mary Zak, who survives him. Frank worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford from 1949 until his retirement in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator and spent two years in Alaska with the B-29s from 1946-49. Following the Air Force, he served in the 180th Fighter Wing Ohio Air National Guard beginning in1960 until 1985. Frank was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa. He was also a lifetime farmer. He enjoyed polka dancing and had played in a polka band. He was very active in the German-American Festival every year at Oak Shade Grove. Frank was also a pilot and had his own airplane. In addition to his wife, Mary, Frank is survived by his children, Marty Mike Matyas (Marianne Ferrara), Diana Schling (Mike Vogelpohl) and Lynda Klavinger; grandchildren, Mike Matyas, Lindsay (Taylor) Skees, David (Megan) Hoskinson, Kristi (Matt) Brinker, Kody (Karl) Kuhlman, Rashell Klavinger, Levi Klavinger and Ryan Klavinger; step grandchildren, Kelly (Rex) Moore, Todd Schling and Brian Schling; nine great grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; and siblings, Ludvik Matyas and Lillian Repka. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Edward Matyas, and brother, Martin Matyas. Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The Funeral Mass will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 Main St., Genoa, with military graveside service to follow in Clay Township Cemetery.
