Frank Leon Beans, died on December 27, 2007, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a 6 month battle with cancer. He was able to remain at home through Christmas surrounded by his entire loving family. He was the beloved husband of Thelma Miller Beans, with whom he had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 5th at a family party. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Leon Beans, and his mother Iola Mestler Beans. Frank is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Thelma; his children, Lesley Beans David Kasprzak of Ottawa Hills, Frank Gregory Anne Beans of Perrysburg, William Frank Cindy Beans of Ottawa Hills, and 8 adoring grandchildren, David Chad Kasprzak of Chicago, Kristin Jeremy Martin of Liberty, MO, Caroline, Laura, and Elizabeth Beans, Stephanie, Phillip, and Geoffrey Beans. Frank was born on August 7, 1923, in Toledo, OH. He attended DeVilbiss High School, received his bachelors degree from The University of Toledo, and then commuted to University of Michigan to attain his masters degree and to continue to work toward his doctorate of psychology. During his college years, and while working at the Toledo Clinic, he eloped with his sweetheart, Thelma, on December 5th, 1946. Upon finishing his work at U of M, he went into private practice as the first child psychologist in the state of Ohio, and was referred to as the Grandfather of Child Psychology. His professional career, which spanned 5 decades, stands as testament to his commitment, dedication and devotion to his young patients. His affiliations and interests reflect a full life, well-lived, and well-loved. He was a World War II naval veteran, a member of Rotary, American Legion, Inverness Country Club, Toledo Country Club, Catawba Island Club, the Flying Tigers, and The American Psychological Association. He enjoyed bowling, and he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and reader. Frank was passionate about boating and his home on Lake Erie, his radio-controlled airplanes, and his Wolverines. Franks family will cherish a multitude of memories, and he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be most remembered for his sound advice, sharp wit, and gregarious charm. His grandchildren looked forward to his strong bear hugs and enthusiastic rough-housing. He was also the self-proclaimed biggest cheerleader for his grandchildren, each of whom he appreciated for their unique and individual gifts. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2007, from 2-6 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Sherry Sharp, Brian Babb, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
