Frances L. Nehls

Frances L. Nehls, 88, of Genoa, formerly of Oak Harbor, passed away Wednesday morning, August 19, 2015, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, Oregon. Frances was born March 1, 1927, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Francis E. and Verna M. (Bordeaux) Boomer. On May 1, 1946, in Oak Harbor she married Carol E. Nehls and he preceded her in death August 2, 2002. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Nehls Markette in Port Clinton from 1955-60, then operated Nehls Market in Oak Harbor for more than 25 years until 1985. Fran was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Oak Harbor and served on the Altar Society. Her many hobbies included camping, visits to the Amish country, writing letters, flowers and gardening, and she loved to listen to music. Fran was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and always kept a bulletin board of family photos. Fran is survived by her daughter, Madonna Cookie (Terry) Vine of Gaines, MI, Michael (Marcia) Nehls of Wauseon, Mary Ann (William) Wittman of Millbury, and Mark (Dawn) Nehls of Beaver Creek, OH; ten grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, sister, Patricia Sorg of Oak Harbor, sister-in-law, Bernice Cook Runner of Millbury, and adopted son, Ronnie Watt of Oak Harbor. Her parents, husband, grandson, Robert Wittman, sister, Joyce Winklea, and brothers, James Boomer and Charles Boomer, preceded her in death. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, where the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service from 9-10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorials for Frances be given to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 Church St., Oak Harbor, OH 43449; or Crane Creek Wildlife Area, 13531 W. St. Rt. 2, Oak Harbor, OH 43449.
