Frances L. Darcy

Frances L. Darcy, 89, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 10, 2017 after a short stay at The Lakes of Sylvania. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 22, 1927 to Frank and Marie (Cimino) Niciforo. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania. During WWII she served in the Naval Intelligence Department, Office of Censorship. Frances retired from and served as Vice President of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 84. She was very active in labor affiliations over the years and was appointed by the Mayor to the Toledo Civil Service Commission in 1982, served as Executive Board member of the Toledo Area AFL-CIO and was a delegate to the Toledo Port Council where she was elected Sergeant of Arms in 1970. Frances served on the Political Action Committee of the Toledo Port Council and on the Community Services Committees and the Civil Rights Committee of the Toledo Area AFL-CIO Council. She was a devout Democrat and was very active in municipal, state and national campaigns. Frances was a member of the Lucas County Democratic Executive Committee, the Democratic Business and Professional Women of Lucas County, the National Coalition of Labor Union Women, the West Toledo Democratic Womens Club and the Ohio Federation of Democratic Womens Organization. Her community involvement also included volunteering for the Toledo Symphony. She loved her family and valued the time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children, June (Mike) Hampton and Frank (Judy) Knakiewicz; grandchildren, Dawn Hampton, Mike (Melissa) Hampton, Jim (Dawn) Hampton, Erica (Armin) Leonhardt, Lisa (Tony) Palazzolo and Bryan Knakiewicz; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Phyllis) Niciforo and sister, Eleanor Dileo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Darcy; brother, Cosmo Niciforo and sisters, Betty Bontticello and Theresa Tedesco. Visitation for Frances will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 4 PM until 8 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 AM with prayers at 9:30 AM in the funeral home and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania for 10 AM Mass. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Tributes in Francess name may be sent to the Toledo Symphony, PO Box 407, Toledo, OH 43697.
