Flora J. McKenzie (Sis) of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on October 26, 2016 at the age of 90. Born in Toledo to Harry and Elizabeth (Kennedy) McKenzie, Flora went on to graduate Cum Laude from The University of Toledo where she received a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. She was also the first woman to receive a scholarship in Physical Education at the university. She continued her education and received a Masters Degree, graduating Suma Cum Laude, and then a Doctorate Degree, both from Sussex College in England. Flora then taught Physical Education at Washington Local until her retirement in 1990. At the age of 75 she took a course in Tae Kwando for exercise, but loved it so much she continued on to receive her Black Belt. In addition, she enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a fan of The University of Toledos Womens Basketball. If they were not televised, she would listen to it on the radio. Flora is survived by her adopted grandchildren and long time care givers, Dan, Kim, AshLeigh (Michael Irwin) and Derrick Hurst, all from Toledo, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Dennis Rife (My Guy), also of Toledo. The family would like to give a special thank you to Laura and Sandy from Hospice, as well as nurses, Sally Taylor and Nancy Brann. Memorial services will be private.
