Farouq G Abawi

December 18, 1948 — September 1, 2015

FAROUQ G. ABAWI Farouq G. Abawi, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. Farouq was born December 18, 1948 in Afghanistan to Dastaghir and Sabahat Abawi. Farouq was married to Amina in Beirut, Lebanon, while they both attended the American University of Beirut. He then completed his PhD in Animal Science and Nutrition, at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Farouq moved his family to the island of Guam and accepted a position of professor at the University of Guam. He taught for 20 years, and retired early at the urging of his children. They wanted him to be able to spend more time with them both. Farouq and Amina retired, and lived with their son Dr. Sulaiman Abawi and his family in Swanton Ohio for the last 8 years. Farouq enjoyed his retirement years in prayer, gardening, tending to his beehives, raising chickens, and of course spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a quintessential handyman whom could fix anything, and enjoyed working on projects with his son Sulaiman and grandson Ibrahim. He enjoyed his time with his family and will be deeply missed by his wife Amina, his son and best friend Sulaiman, his daughter in law Lailah, his daughter Arzo and Farina, his son in law’s Akbar and Muhammad, and his 10 grandchildren Yusef, Yasmeen, Mustafa, Emaan, Nadiah, Ibrahim, Aliyah, Rania, Obaidullah and Zainab. O you who believe! Seek help in patience and prayer. Truly! God is with the patient ones. And say not of those who are die in the way of God, 'They are dead.' Nay, they are living, but you perceive it not. And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient ones. Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: 'Truly! To God we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.' Verses 153-156, Chapter 2 (Al Baqarah), The Holy Quran Any contributions to his memory can be made to any worthy charity, with the emphasis on feeding the poor, helping the needy, and protecting the orphans.
