Fannie D. Mack, 91 years young, of Catawba Island, passed away July 18, 2014 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. Fannie was born on July 29, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio. There she met her sweetheart and future husband, Bill. They married during the war when Bill was shipped off to the Pacific, in 1943. In 1946, they migrated north to our wonderful city of Port Clinton. There they founded and operated Lake Erie Sports for 42 years, along with Fannies brother Lee and wife Florence. The Mack’s were lifetime supporters of Port Clinton athletics and are members of the Port Clinton Athletic Hall of Fame. Fannie and Bill also had The Ice Cream Place in the 1990s. Fannies Famous Coneys were a big favorite of many. Fannie’s hobbies involved anything outdoors. She loved volunteering, and was a Cub Scout Den mother. She was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, and made many lifelong friends there. She was a wonderful mother to her three children: Jeff in Port Clinton, Terry (Lyle) Mackey in Mansfield and Bill in Cedar City, Utah; two grandchildren Jeff (Melissa) Mackey of Gahanna Ohio and Kent (Melissa) Mackey in Loveland Ohio; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Captola (Davis) & William K Davis, four brothers and one sister. Her husband, Bill, passed away in 2001. A private family memorial service will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, gifts of sympathy can be made on her behalf to the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary or Stein Hospice Care Center. She was gracious while alive, and gracious in death.
