F. Russell Motter

F. Russell Motter, 80, of Genoa, died Wednesday afternoon, February 10, 2010, in Perrysburg Care and Rehabilitation Center, Perrysburg, Ohio. Russ was born September 29, 1929, in Clarksfield Hollow, Ohio, to Forrest and Ruth Russell Motter. On July 21, 1985, in Genoa, Ohio, he married E. Rose Yarger Booth-Motter, and she survives. Russ worked for 37 years as an accountant for Marathon Oil in Findlay, Ohio. He also served as clerk-treasurer for the Village of Genoa from 1998-2002. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa. Russ was a member of the American Legion Post #292 in New London, Ohio, having served in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Findlay for many years. Russ was active as a Boy Scout leader for 19 years in Findlay and attended two Jamborees. For 41 years he refereed high school football. He liked to play Bridge and golf and made custom golf clubs. Russ was a people person, who enjoyed telling jokes and stories. He enjoyed driving and delivered the Toledo Free Press around the area. In addition to his wife, Rose, Russ is survived by his sons, Richard Dianne Motter of Hendersonville, NC, James Kathy Motter of Philomath, OR, William Motter of Portland, OR, and John Motter of Ocala, FL; step daughters, Rebecca Booth and Julie Brian Humbarger both of Genoa; six grandchildren, his first wife, Ruth Burner of Ocala, FL; and siblings, Jean Rumbaugh of New London, and David Motter of Fitchville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and two favorite aunts, Grace Russell and Rebecca Russell. A memorial service, for Russ, will be held at 11AM, Saturday, February 13, 2010 in the chapel of St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St. Genoa, OH. Interment will be scheduled in the spring or early summer at the Grove Street Cemetery, New London, OH, Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, assisted the family with arrangements. The family has suggested memorials to St. Johns United Church of Christ. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com. The family is truly grateful for the excellent care Russ received from the nursing staff at Perrysburg Nursing Rehabilitation Center.
