Evelyn M. Price-Hunley, Ph.D., of Sylvania, Ohio, died September 2, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She was born January 4, 1929 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the late Peter and Miriam George. Dynamic and intelligent, Evelyn earned her bachelors degree from Kent State University and began a long career in public education. She taught elementary school and later became a principal, program director and eventually retired from the Napa California United School District as director of education. During her career, she directed programs for Native American Education and for the deaf. She also served as president of the American Association of University Women. Evelyn obtained her doctorate degree from San Francisco State University at the age of 45. Evelyn was an author and member of a writers guild. She had a book published entitled Maheeba which was a fictional depiction of her childhood immigrant experience. Evelyn was caring, selfless and loved to entertain. She had an amazing skill in the kitchen and loved creating regional and international dishes and cooking for family and friends. Evelyn served as host for a sister cities program in Napa and will be remembered for her unique ability to make every guest feel welcome and at home. She was also a longtime member of the Red Hat Society. Evelyn is survived by her children, Diane Jamison (James), Kim Denise Hice and David Graham (Christine Kilman); six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and step son, Charles Hunley. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Harold Price and Edward Hunley; and nine siblings. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday , September 8, 2017 at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr Street, Toledo, OH 43607.
