Evaughn M. Joseph Michael, a lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio, died peacefully Friday morning, September 27th, surrounded by her family. Known as Evie to her closest friends and loved ones, Evaughn was a devoted and hard-working professional who believed that her work was as important as any in contributing to the country in which she lived, and which she loved so dearly. Evaughns contributions were made through several decades of work with Ohio Bell Yellow Pages, and for the last twenty-plus years, as a freelancer in sales, printing, promotions and graphics. A proud child of Lebanese immigrants, proud Toledoan, and proud member of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, Evaughn also had many passions that she enjoyed in her spare time: reading, physical fitness, cooking, dining out with family, friends and clients alike, and thoughtful conversation with anyone willing to lend her an ear. Evaughnwhose opinions were as strong as her coffeecould otherwise be found holding court at Byblos Restaurant, conversing over a meal of hummus and kibbeh. Greatness is not defined by how much we rise in the world, but by how much we do inside our own small world to make it a better place. With contributions large and small, Evaughn did much to make her world better. Those surviving Evaughn are proud to further her legacy, and the legacy Evaughn furthered from her siblings and ancestors. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Edma Joseph; brothers, Carl Joseph of Toledo, and Albert Joseph Rosemary of Chicago; sisters, Nazema Joseph Jamra George of Phoenix and their children Fayez and Eleanor, and Madeline Joseph Shamy Maurice of Montreal and their son Carl; and son-in-law, George N. Corey of Columbus. Devoted sister of Richard G. Joseph Shirley of Toledo; devoted mother of Carlene Michael DeFalco of Toledo and Georgeann Michael Corey of Columbus. Loving grandmother of Bill, Tammy, and John Linda DeFalco of Toledo, and Michael Lee Corey of Columbus. Evaughn also had special loving relationships with nephews Dr. Tarek Joseph Christine, Rick Joseph, George Joseph, and Nick Shamy Sana; nieces, Johannah Merriman, Janelle Joseph, Rochelle Joseph, Barbara Shamy, and Dr. April Shamy Mark Tabah; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank special caregiver Carole Russell, as well as the fourth floor staff at Lake Park Nursing Facility, for their love and support in the winter of Evaughns life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4949 Harroun Rd., Sylvania, Ohio 43560-2106, or the Cherry Street Mission, 105 17th St., Toledo, Ohio 43604. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Sunday, September 29 from 3-8 PM where Trisagion Services will be held at 7 PM. Funeral services will be Monday, September 30 at 10 AM in St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church with Fr. Ignatius Warren and Fr. Ayman Kfouf officiating. Evaughn requested a private family interment.
