Evanne P. Despones

Evanne P. Despones, 97, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away early Friday morning, March 8, 2013, surrounded by her loving children, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. She is now in the arms of her husband, John, whom she loved and had missed so dearly for 35 years. Evanne was born September 9, 1915, in Lemert, Ohio, to Emmett and Myrtle Valentine Tuman. On April 24, 1937, she married John M. Despones and he preceded her in death November 23, 1978. Evanne was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed going to her great grandchildrens basketball and softball games. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Genoa, where she volunteered many years in their thrift shop. Evanne worked at Platts Five & Dime. She enjoyed working outside in the summer and sitting on her front porch. She was an avid reader, with her favorite being Danielle Steele books from the library. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Evanne maintained her independence and enjoyed taking care of her home until her illness three weeks ago. She is survived by her sons, Mike Carol Despones, Dennis Ruth Despones and Frank Gale Despones and daughter, Pam Jensen, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Evanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Phillip, brothers, Clifford and Forrest, sisters, Dorothy, Gladys, Violet, Lola, Marjorie and Wanda, and son-in-law, Ronald Jensen. A memorial service will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Genoa. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, and interment will be private in Clay Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials for Evanne be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 Main St., Genoa, OH 43430; or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa has assisted the family with arrangements.
