Eugene J. Nicolls

Eugene J. Nicolls, 88, of Toledo, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.  He was born February 4, 1926 in Poland, Ohio to the late Carl and Ethel (McCoy) Nicolls.  He married Ellen Bell on December 28, 1951 and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2011. Eugene served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in occupied Japan during World War II.  He retired in 1985 after spending the majority of his working career as a sales representative with Gulf Oil Company.  Eugene enjoyed woodworking projects and being the handyman for his family and friends.  He also loved vacationing on his boat at the lake.  Eugene was a generous, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his son, William (Pattye Lou) Nicolls, Toledo; daughter, Pattye Ann (Jeff Zappieri) Nicolls, Hudson Falls, NY; grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Mack, Katie (Eli Martin) Nicolls and E.J. Nicolls; great grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Annamarie and Samuel Mack and Felicity Martin; brother, Donald (Beverly) Nicolls, New Castle, PA; sister, Betty Grover, Struthers, OH; and sister in law, Mary Nicolls, Columbus.  Eugene was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert and David; and sister, Ruth Lewis. Friends are invited to visit from 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.).  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 428 North Erie Street, Toledo.  Entombment will be private. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at both Mercy St. Annes Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care of Eugene.
