Eugene A. Couture

On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, Eugene A. Couture, 68, of Port Clinton, OH left us for a better place after a brief battle with cancer. Eugene was born in Port Clinton, OH on May 16, 1941 to Wilford and Melinda Clookey Couture. On July 6, 1965 he married the love of his life, Lois J. Spears, and she survives. Eugene was a very hard worker and spent the majority of his life as an owner operator. He was a lifelong resident of Port Clinton, where he raised his children, one son, Eugene A. Julie Couture Jr. of Theoadore, AL, and four daughters, Jaqueline R. Russ Below of Lima, OH, Tammy S Couture, Gods precious angel, Tonya M. Rick Couture-Grubb of Port Clinton and Tina M. Brian Schank of Tiffin, OH. He spent his retirement years attending the sporting events, dance recitals, and school programs of his grandchildren, Amber, Aaron, Ashley, Alicia, Adrian and Alexis Couture, Melissa Lance Bubb, Amanda Boling and Zachary Wagner, Cody and Kyle Grubb, and Jessica, Sydney, Benjamin and Jenna Schank. He is also deeply loved by his nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Eugene enjoyed being with his family whether it was camping, fishing, or getting together for a casual family poker game. Many people recognized him by his famous black hat and his buddy Smokey Joe, his pet Chihuahua. He was met at Heavens Gates by his parents, sisters, Jeanette Meachem, Joan Boling, Normalee Couture, brother, Wilford A. Couture Jr., and daughter, Tammy Sue Couture. He will be sadly missed and always with us especially when we shuffle the cards, scratch a lottery ticket, catch a fish, sit by the campfire, hear a Mel McDaniel song, or pass a big truck on the highway. Eugene was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM, Sunday, June 21, 2009 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father John Missler at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 22, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. Additional visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the funeral home, prior to family prayers beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH.
