Ethel D. Wierzba

Ethel D. Wierzba, 81, of Port Clinton, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at H.B. Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton. She was born on June 22, 1929 in Detroit, MI to John Silas Wilder and Ethel Dorothy Mitchell Wilder Lincoln. She graduated in 1947 from Scott High School in Toledo. On November 20, 1948 in Port Clinton she married Edmund S. Robin Wierzba, and after 60+ years of marriage he preceded her in death on January 24, 2009. Ethel worked as a homemaker and also for the Ottawa County Recorders Office for 8 years, Standard Products Credit Union for 10 years, as a phone operator for GTE, and volunteered at H.B. Magruder Hospital. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, Altar Rosary Society, Ladies Elks Lodge #1718 in Port Clinton, Port Clinton Artist Club, one of the original members of the Ava Maria Study Club, Port Clinton Athletic Boosters Club, and a past president of the Ottawa County Democratic Womens Club. Ethel was also an artist and enjoyed sewing, including doing alterations for Swan Cleaners and Bergman Mens Store, and making doll clothes. Ethel is survived by her children: Barbara Don Drusbacky of Port Clinton, Sandra Joe Prater of Kenton, OH, Philip Deborah Wierzba of Port Clinton, Kathleeen Tom Bush of Spring Grove, PA, Mark Wierzba of Port Clinton, and Keith Wierzba of Huron; grandchildren: Casey Lynn Mentzer, Jeffrey Melissa Wierzba, Jason Heather Wierzba, Jonathan Wierzba, Joshua Wierzba, Christopher Drusbacky, Kyle Wierzba, Alexander Eric Bush, and Ian Logan Wierzba; great grandchildren: Caileigh Chase Wierzba, and one expectant great granddaughter; brother: John Jerry Wilder of Toledo; and sisters: Gloria Colin Tipton Sawdy of Perrysburg and Emelene George Chandler of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Missler at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, beginning with prayers offered at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions in memory of Ethel may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton or the American Lung Association.
