Ethel Gene (Rhoades) Underwood

Ethel Gene Rhoades Underwood, 96, of Lakeside, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on February 11, 1925 in Galveston, Indiana, the daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Tallman) Rhoades. On September 19, 1943 she married Robert “Bob” Underwood and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2012. One of Ethel’s passions in life was flower gardening, she was a member of the Whispering Meadows Garden Club in Fremont, Ohio. She became a Master Gardener. Her favorite flowers were roses, lilies, and hostas. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Elks Ladies Bowling League. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Sharon Johnson, Eugene, Oregon, Mike (Diane) Underwood, Piqua, Ohio, Steve (Lisa) Underwood, Port Clinton, and Patty Potempa, Russells Point, Ohio; grandchildren, Travis, Andrew, Cassandra, Alexandria, Neal, and Quentin; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and siblings, Edgar, Bobby, Paul, Russell, Lillian, and Carolyn. Visitation will be held at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 11 am until Funeral Services at 1 pm with her nephew, David Ludders officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 1 pm at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Fort Hill at www.campforthill.org/support.
