Ethel Bradford

Ethel Bradford, 89, died May 6, 2009, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, Ohio. Born in Bogota, New Jersey to Carolyn and Wilbur Earle. A 1937 graduate of Bogota High School, she married Brian K. Bradford, M.D. in 1942. Ethel and Brian moved to Toledo in 1952 where Brian set up his medical practice. Ethel entered the University of Toledo in 1971, graduating in 1975. She earned her masters degree in 1978. She taught English at Sienna Heights, the University of Toledo, and Owens Community College as well as assisting in the reading lab until she retired in 2005 at the age of 85. Ethel and Brian were charter members of Christ Presbyterian Church. She recently wrote and published the story of Christ Presbyterian Church. She was a past president of the Medical Auxiliary of Lucas County, and read on the radio for the Sight Center. Ethel was a lifelong swimmer and avid reader, sang in the choir at church and played bridge for many years. She enjoyed family gatherings and entertaining guests at their cottage on White Lake, Michigan. Ethel traveled extensively with her husband and family and later with friends, recently journeying to Iceland in 2005, Budapest in 2006 and the Canadian Rockies in 2007. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Brian. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Thomas Volk of Blissfield MI; sons, Dennis E. Bradford Ph.D., of Conesus, NY., Douglas A. Elena Bradford of Toledo, David A. Cynthia of Marlborough, MA., and Brian K. Hope Bradford III of Davisburg, MI; sister-in-law, Mary R. Bernard Roth, M.D. of San Diego, CA.; and grandchildren, David Sarah and Kathryn Volk, Amy Jim Hall, Victoria and Elizabeth Bradford and Jessica and Magnus Bradford. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 PM in Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 Sylvania Ave., Toledo following a private burial. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Christ Presbyterian Church or the Ebeid Hospice Residence.
