Esther M. Petersen, 95, of Oak Harbor passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born on December 28, 1922, in Oak Harbor to Alfred J. and Leota D. (Swope) Kieper. She graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1942. Esther served as a supervisor for the U.S. Cadet Nurse Program during World War II. She went on to graduate as a registered nurse from Flower Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She married Wayne O. Petersen and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1985. Esther had worked as a registered nurse for Gulf Oil Refinery for 22 years before retiring in 1981. She volunteered at St. Charles Hospital in Toledo and Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, where she was also an Auxiliary Life Member. Esther was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, American Legion Post #114 of Oak Harbor, and the Spindle Top Club. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant twin sister, Lilly Kieper. She had many friends from church and her community that she thought of very fondly and appreciated their friendship. Memorial services for Esther will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Esther may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Capital Improvement Fund.
