Esther S. Heil, age 100, passed away November 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Esther was born to parents Earnest and Lottie Schultz on May 3, 1924, in Toledo, OH. She attended Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1942. After graduation, she enrolled in the Mercy School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse in 1945. This was the perfect profession for her as she had a heart of gold, loved caring for people, and always put others first. Esther worked at Mercy Hospital for several years before joining the practice of Dr. Franz Berlacher. For 41 years she worked for Dr. Berlacher, her dear friend, helping run his practice and touching the lives of many employees and patients. She made an instant connection with anyone she met and made everyone feel loved.
Esther valued family more than anything. She married her husband Victor D. Heil, and they raised two sons. She enjoyed spending the summer at the family’s lake home and enjoyed hosting family and friends. One could always count on a good card game and a fun time. In the winter, she could be found supporting and cheering on her grandchildren in their sporting events. Her support and words of wisdom were always appreciated.
Esther had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of Memorial Lutheran Church. Her giving nature and outgoing personality led to many friendships. She enjoyed weekly dinners out with friends and was the life of any party. She was also a member of the Sunset House Auxiliary, the Toledo Art Museum, Sylvania Senior Center, and Mercy College Auxiliary.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Geraldine, and daughter in law, Kae Heil. She is survived by her sons, Gary, and Jim (Kathy); grandchildren, Kimberly (Lawrence) White, Jennifer (Jim Trainor) Heil, Kelly Heil, Bryan Heil and Sara (Aaron) Byler; great-grandchildren, Madison White, Calleigh White, Sydney White, Cody White, Nova Byler, and Kensi Byler.
Esther lived her 100 years with love, faith, compassion, kindness, and humor. She was one of a kind, loved so much and will be dearly missed.
