Surrounded by loving family, Esther Ettl, Age 96, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Friday July 6, 2018. She was born September 25, 1921 to the late Dean Haskins and Leda Willoughby, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Esther was a lifetime volunteer at the East Toledo American Legion and VFW Post #2510. You could often find her selling poppies and assisting in many community events. Esther retired from First Federal Bank in downtown Toledo. She loved making meals, spending time with her family especially during the holidays, and playing Bunco. Esther was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Thomas Church of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Parish. She enjoyed attending First Saint Mark Lutheran Church events and attended numerous festivals. Esther’s grandchildren were her world Left to cherish Esther’s memory are her children, Anna (Donald) Norden, Jeanette (David) Benton, and Julie (Jeffery) York; grandchildren, Brian Norden, Ashley York, and Jeffery York Jr.; and many great-grandchildren. Preceding Esther in death is her husband Ellory “Bud” Ettl; children, Thomas Ball, Tina Ettl, and Dean Ettl; and grandson, Aaron Benton. The family would like to thank Black Stone and Ohio Living Hospice for their loving care. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio 43616 (419-691-6768) where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. and an American Legion service will follow. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. Thomas Church of Epiphany of the Lord Parrish, 729 White Street, Toledo, Ohio where her family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Willow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Esther’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
