Esperanza Hope Olalde

Esperanza “Hope” Olalde, 82, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at her residence in Port Clinton, OH, surrounded by her loving family. Hope was born on October 11, 1933 in Shepherd, MI, the daughter of Nicholas and Manuela (Martinez) Cortez. On June 09, 1956 in Wauseon, OH, she married Jose B. Olalde and he survives. She retired from Port Clinton City Schools after working in the school board of education office for more than 27 years. Hope was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Port Clinton. She campaigned for John F. Kennedy and had attended the inauguration of Lyndon Johnson. Hope was an interpreter for the Ottawa County Courts and an election poll worker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Hope will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Husband of 59 years: Jose B. Olalde of Port Clinton; Daughters: Elma Olalde of Toledo and Annette Olalde of Port Clinton; Sons: Joe A. (Lisa) Olalde of Dayton and John (Patty) Olalde of Las Vegas; Grandchildren: Lacy, Lindsey, Joshua Samantha Olalde and Ashley (Allen) Miller; Great-Grandchildren: Corie Olalde, Jase Joseph Miller; Sisters: Ellen Chapa of Wauseon, Linda Rodriquez of Corpus Christie, TX, Esther Cortez and Tina Cortez, both of Wauseon. Hope was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Albert Cortez, sisters: Janie Ybarra, Stella Rodriquez and Lois Garza Visitation will be 2-4 6-8PM, Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, with family prayers at 10:00AM, Friday, October 23, 2015 at the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be conducted by Father John Missler at 10:30AM, Friday, October 23, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH. Burial will be private at Christy Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations in memory of Hope be given to the family or Heartland Hospice, Fremont, OH
