Erma L. Peters

December 15, 1921 — April 30, 2025

Erma L. Peters, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 30, 2025, at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio. She was 103 years old.

Erma was born on December 15, 1921, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Charles and Iva (Humphrey) Lieske. A proud graduate of Oak Harbor High School, she pursued training in bookkeeping and secretarial work in Toledo, Ohio. With a deep sense of patriotism and duty, Erma enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 1, 1943. During World War II, she was stationed in England and France, shortly after France was secured by Allied Forces. As a finance typist clerk, she made significant contributions during the Battle of Germany and was honored with the Bronze Battle Star, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, and WAAC Service Ribbon for her service.

Upon returning home, Erma married the love of her life, Walden Peters, on September 12, 1945. Together they raised a close-knit and loving family and operated Peters’ Grocery near the Toussaint River. Erma and Walden shared a love for travel and cherished spending their winters in Lake Okeechobee, Florida.

A woman of many passions, Erma found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener who delighted in tending to her flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed needlepoint, reading romance novels, and attending the Lieske family reunions, which brought her great happiness and pride.

Erma’s legacy lives on through her devoted family. She is survived by her children, Lowell (Judy) Peters, Douglas Peters, Bruce (Deborah) Peters, and Regina Peters; her grandchildren, Bryan Peters, Kevin (Carrie) Peters, Stacy (Jeff) Feldman, Kristy (Brian) Bramell, Doug (Rebecca) Peters, Stephanie (Anthony) Pinto, and Brittnee (Eddie) Quintanar; and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Annabelle, and Nicholas Peters, Gavin and Collin Peters, Ryan and Hannah Feldman, Grayson and Kaelyn Bramell, Brennan and Ali Peters, and Oliver and Cedar Quintanar. She is also survived by her sister, Delite Fahl, and her sister-in-law, Bev Peters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walden (2000); her parents; her siblings, Julius Lieske, Charles Lieske, Ruel Lieske, Mirvel Tack, Alice Skinner, and Ilene Porter; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Peters.
