Erma Jean Hammond, age 86, passed peacefully from this life on April 30, 2020 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, Ohio. She was born February 4, 1934 in Norphlet, Arkansas to the late Willie Lee Davis Sr. and Mattie Lee (Thompson) Davis. Erma was employed for more than 30 years with Hewlett-Packard, primarily in the purchasing department. Most of her employment life was spent in Colorado Springs, Colorado and her retirement years in Denver. As her health declined, Erma moved to Toledo, Ohio to be close to her daughter Debra and son-in-law, Bobby Hill. A faithful Christian woman, Erma was a dedicated member of True Light Baptist Church in Denver. After moving to Toledo, she transferred her membership to Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to travel, especially with her family, was a skilled seamstress and cook. Erma even sewed her own wedding dress and was well known for her carrot cake. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family whom she dearly loved. Erma will be lovingly remembered for her delightfully warm personality. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ronald Pumphrey of Eldorado, Arkansas, Debra Hill (Bobby) of Toledo, Ohio, Sharron Hicks of Eldorado, Arkansas, Brenda Crockett of Eldorado, Arkansas and Vivian Pumphrey of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Luther Ray, Bobby Lee Davis, Willie Lee Davis Jr., and Otis W. Davis; and sisters, Betty Washington, Maude King (Fred), Doris Hayes and Carolyn Gates (Glenn). Erma was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Langston; and siblings, Edward Davis, Billy Davis, Sylvester Davis and Eloise Davis. Visitation with strict social distancing guidelines will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) A mask will be required to enter the building. Due to restrictions, funeral services to celebrate her home going will be private.
