Eric Ralph Johnson, 46, of Toledo, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born on October 24, 1967, in Decatur, Illinois to Ralph and Kathryn Johnson. He graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1985, and received an Associates Degree from Owens Community College. He was a payroll specialist in the Lucas County Auditors Office for almost 18 years. He is survived by his father Ralph of Ottawa Hills, his sister Zora Eric Mikesell, of Michigan, and his two nephews, Grant and Luke Mikesell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn, in 2002. Eric was a wonderful son, friend, and travel companion to his father. He vacationed in Florida and Hawaii with his father during the winter months, and they spent summers at a resort on Lake Huron. He was a doting uncle, and his nephews were his pride and joy. He was a member of the Ottawa Hills troop of the Boy Scouts of America, and rose to the rank of Eagle Scout. He took part in the Scouts National Jamboree and the International Jamboree held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He also participated in a Toledo Scout Council trek to Philmont Scout ranch in New Mexico as part of the Order of the Arrow contingent. He was an avid Ohio State football fan, and had a love of books and movies. For many years, Eric and his sister studied the violin in school and college. He was a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra during his high school years. Eric was a lifelong blood donor, and was recognized as a Purple Top Donor by the American Red Cross for donating more than 80 pints of blood. Even in death, Eric continues to help others as an organ donor to four families. A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at Collingwood Presbyterian Church, 2108 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43620.
