Eric Charles Elliot, gentleman, general practitioner and medical researcher born August 27, 1923 in Blenheim, Ontario Canada to Mary and Walter Elliot, died November 20, 2010. Eric graduated from the University of Toronto, Trinity College with a combined B.S./M.D. degree. Following his two year internship in Toronto, he went into general medical practice in Saskatchewan, Canada. In the fall of 1949 he married Heather Isobel Park. Eric and Heather had their first of three children, Wendy born in Regina, Canada in 1951. Eric established a medical practice in the small prairie town of Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, here their second child Ian was born. After six years in practice, Eric and Heather moved to Edmonton, Alberta to pursue postgraduate work in cardiovascular research at the University of Alberta. During this time, Eric obtained both his Masters in Physiology and a PhD in Physiology. He participated in Dr. John Callaghans research team, which was involved in some of the first open heart operations performed in Canada. While in Edmonton, Eric and Heathers third child, Susan was born. In 1964, Eric and his family moved from Edmonton to Silver springs, Maryland. He took a position at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Eric worked for 12 years at Walter Reed doing full time cardiovascular research, where he published numerous articles in the area of coronary artery research. After his tenure at Walter Reed, Eric worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. His position oversaw the Clinical Research Centers throughout the United States. After retirement, Eric and Heather moved to Toledo, Ohio to be closer to their son and his family. Eric was a sportsman with many interests, his favorite being golf. Eric was an accomplished golfer and had the good fortune to have two holes-in-one while playing many courses throughout Canada and the United States. Eric is survived by his companion and loving wife of 61 years; three children, Wendy George Hamilton of Centennial, CO, Susan Drew Flechsig of Burtonsville, MD, and Ian Su Elliot of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren, Sean Nina Elliot, Christina Elliot, Katelyn and James Hamilton, and Thomas and Allison Flechsig; and great-grandson, Sam Elliot. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; and sister, Kitty. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, from 5-7:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at 11:00am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1 Trinity Plaza Toledo, OH 43604, graveside services will follow at 1:00pm at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
