Erdine O. Almendinger

Erdine O. Almendinger, 89, of Rocky Ridge died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. She was born on July 17, 1924 in Oak Harbor to Theodore and Savilla Draves Rimelspach. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1942 and worked at the Erie Proving Grounds. On November 26, 1949 in Oak Harbor she married Robert V. Almendinger and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1965. She was a cook at the Rocky Ridge School for several years and a bookkeeper at the National Bank of Oak Harbor, retiring in 1989. Erdine was a very involved member of St Johns Lutheran Church of Rocky Ridge, serving as the memorial fund chair, cooking at church events, sewing circle, and serving on the visitation committee for shut-ins. Erdine had a great love for her family, church and community. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews were the highlights of her life and a sparkle in her eye was always evident when some of the family or a neighbor would stop and enjoy her cookies, or be the recipient of a sewing or crocheting project. Erdine is survived by her daughter, Marcia Jim Kania of Graytown, step-sons: Ronald Rose Almendinger of Florida and Dan Tammy Almendinger of Port Clinton; grandchildren: Patrick Megen Kania and Teresa Kania; step-grandchildren: Lori Chapin, Steven Andrea Almendinger, Gina Rick Cuttaia, Tricia Greg Tallman, Krissy Tom Smith, Stephanie Dan Pitts, and Zoe Dom Dowell; five additional step-grandchildren; one great grandchild, 25 step-great grandchildren; and sister: Opal Almendinger of Oak Harbor. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brother: Harold Rimelspach, step grandson: Scott Almendinger, and step-daughter-in-law: Marcia Almendinger. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in memory of Erdine to St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge.
