Enid M. Sullivant, 93, passed away on May 19, 2018. She was born on March 1, 1925, in New York, New York, to John and Marion (Faith) Olsen. She spent her childhood in Leonia, New Jersey, attended Principia High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and then moved to Manhattan. While studying at the Art Career School, she worked at the NYU Film Library and held a civil service position at the Army Quartermaster Corps. In 1950, she moved to Chicago, worked as secretary to the Director of the Museum of Science and Industry, and took classes at Roosevelt College. She attended University Church, where she first saw Robert in the church choir. They married in 1952. Managing multiple cross-country moves, she continued her studies and began building a family. She graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis and later earned her Master’s degree in Special Education from The University of Toledo. She also worked as a Library of Congress braille transcriber, and as a Montessori instructor, all while raising four children. She found great joy in her faith, family, and friends. She was an exceptional painter who rarely had idle hands, preferring to knit or play bridge or reach out to help others. She truly enjoyed her last years, communing with friends at Ohio Living Swan Creek. We will remember her best as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, with a gentle and compassionate soul and a selfless manner in all things. Enid is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Sullivant, and her sister, Winifred McLaughlin. Enid is survived by her children, Wayne (Beverly) Sullivant, Stephen (Larissa) Sullivant, Barbara (Mustafa) Akl, and Cynthia (Timothy) Byrket; her 12 grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas, Cory, and Wesley Sullivant, Alla and Michael Sullivant, Sara and Tanya Akl, and William (Sarah), Theresa, Katherine, and John Byrket; and her sister, Marilyn Baurle. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 West Central Ave., Toledo, OH 43615. Those wishing to leave a memorial in Enid’s honor may wish to consider a charity of their choice. Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
