Emma Darmofal

March 5, 1935 — July 30, 2019

EMMA LOUELLA (ADAMSHICK) DARMOFAL Emma Lou (Adamshick) Darmofal, 84, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on July 30, 2019 at the Franciscan Care Center in Toledo. Born on March 5, 1935, to Christopher and Joanna (Fry) Adamshick, she married Leo M. Darmofal on June 23, 1962. Emma and Leo had a daughter, Cathy, and a son, David. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Emma took classes at the University of Toledo. She worked for many years as a cafeteria worker and a clerical worker and made friends everywhere she went. Emma was a very religious woman and as a Roman Catholic, her rosary was one of her most treasured possessions. Emma was the light of her daughter and son’s world and was the most devoted, loving, and kind mother anyone could hope to have. Her smile lit up a room and made everyone feel welcome and at home including the many workers at the Franciscan Care Center. They loved to see her go past in her wheelchair and loved her ready smile. She loved baseball, including the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and became an avid fan of the University of Illinois basketball team during her son’s years as a graduate student there. Her son and daughter have wonderful memories of their mother. Of her lifting them up so they could watch the fireworks through the upstairs bedroom window, reading to them as children every afternoon, sharing their joys and sorrows, celebrating their graduations and accomplishments, and spending many happy moments together the past several years in the chapel and in front of the bigscreen TV and in the puffy chairs at the Franciscan Care Center. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, her parents, Chris and Joanna, her brothers Donald Adamshick and Robert Adamshick, her best friend, Betty Ronk, and numerous friends and relatives. Emma is survived by her sister, Joan, daughter, Cathy, and son, David, who will always love her deeply and miss her terribly, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and friends. Although her passing was a shock, her son and daughter are so grateful that she is no longer suffering and is now in the loving embrace of God. They thank the wonderful and devoted staff of the Franciscan Care Center, which took such great care of her over these past seven years, including Sr. Jordan Schaefer and her treasured aide, Kris. Friends will be received Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 4-6 PM at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Prayers will be recited in the funeral home Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 9:45 AM followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and the American Heart Association.
