Emily S Thayer

Emily S. Thayer, 65 of Toledo, Ohio, danced before Jesus on Saturday, June 29, 2013; as she entered His Presence. She died at Toledo Hospital from complications of a severe heart attack. She was born December 22, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to John S. and Ardis Patricia Carr Nally. Emilys great loves were God, Family, and Teaching; and in return she is greatly loved by all three. Emily graduated from Toledo Start high school in 1965 and Ohio University in 1969. She went on to receive her Masters degree and Reading Specialist from the University of Toledo. Emily retired from Toledo Public Schools after 35 years as an English and Reading teacher at Scott, DeVilbiss, and Start high schools. She loved classroom instruction and relished working with exuberant teenagers. Emily loved to read and devoured mystery books for pleasure. She also belonged and participated in several ladies book groups. She was a Life Master and enjoyed playing with her many partners at the Toledo Bridge Center. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter E Toledo. She loved to study Gods word and was a faithful member of Bible Study Fellowship, Gals for God, Tues evening ladies group, Sunday morning adult group, and Monday evening life group. Her real passion was working for the Lord. She had been a member of Pilgrim UCC, Sylvania UCC, and most recently McCord Road Christian Church. She was the card, call, and visit meister. If anyone was ill, grieving, troubled, or hurting in any way, she touched them. Her card ministry touched thousands of lives for the better. Her caring, smile, laughter, and sparkle will be mightily missed. Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Tom; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Diana Dolt Nally; sister-in-law, Bonnie Thayer; nieces, Todd and Angela NallyWeststrate; Michael and Jennia Nally Axelson; nephew, Patrick and Sarah Nally. Great nieces and nephew, Morgan & Mikayla Weststrate, Anita, Addie, & Lillian Axelson, Luke & Lauren Nally. Visitation is at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave west of Corey Tuesday, July 2nd, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, July 3rd, at McCord Road Christian Church, 4765 McCord Rd, Sylvania. Informal greeting 10-11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service from 11-12, and a light luncheon at the church from 12-2 p.m. Private graveside service for family only.
