Emily Gene Scholz, age 12 years old, passed away May 19, 2023 after a 14 month battle with brain cancer.
Emily had a generous heart, a kind soul, and a mischievous sense of humor. She loved Harry Potter, fancy food and tea parties, reading, computer games, and had just began pursuing volleyball when she was diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in March of 2022.
Most of all, Emily loved her family. She loved to be seated around a table playing games with her brothers and sister, parents and step-parents. It was tough to make Emily put the game away; she would make you keep playing into the early morning hours if she could get away with it. Emily faced her diagnosis with courage and grace. Even as her body began to fail her, she rarely complained. Emily did not let her condition stop her from living her life to the fullest extent that she could. In the last year she traveled to California and attended a convention of her favorite internet stars. She attended school as long as she was physically able, if just to see her many friends. Emily’s school friends were among her biggest cheerleaders and their friendship meant the world to her.
Emily is survived by her mother and step-father Sarah and Jeremy Carnes , father and step-mother Patrick and Candice Scholz, brothers Ethan, Andrew, and Benjamin and her little sister Eloise. She was blessed to have doting grandparents, step-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins that she loved to spend time with whenever she could. And they loved to spend time with her.
Emily was, and her family remains, appreciative of the love and support she received from her teachers, friends, and her community for rallying around her as she fought this terrible disease.
Rest in peace, Emmy Pie. We were so lucky to have you for as long as we did. We know we will see you again. We know you are being welcomed with open arms by your Papa and Grandpa.
