Emerson L. Finke

Emerson L. Finke, 91, of Oak Harbor, OH died Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH. He was born on September 12, 1917 at home in Oak Harbor to Henry and Wilhelmina Lippert Finke. On September 16, 1944 in Toledo, OH he married Eleanor Roth and she survives. Emerson graduated in 1941 from Ohio Northern University with a bachelors degree as a registered pharmacist. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Emerson owned and operated Finke Pharmacy in Oak Harbor from 1951-1983 before retiring. After retirement, he continued to work part time for Greens Pharmacy in Port Clinton for 10 years. Emerson was a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge #495 F & AM, Ottawa County Shrine, Zenobia Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite of Toledo, John A. Fader American Legion Post #114 of Oak Harbor, former longtime Oak Harbor Rotarian, former Oak Harbor Businessmans Association, Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, lifetime member of American Pharmaceutical Association, lifetime member of the Ohio Pharmacist Association - received 50 year award for service. He loved to travel with his wife and they traveled all over the world. Emerson enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, and model trains. In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanor, he is survived by: son: Gary D. Barb Finke of Oak Harbor; daughter: Karen Jo George Ruwet of St. Joseph, MO; 4 grandchildren: Holly James Steinke of Thorton, CO, Stuart Meghan Ruwet of Castle Rock, CO, Meridith Michael Bakker of Wichita, KS, and R. Jay Finke of Oak Harbor; 5 great grandchildren: Kyla Ruwet, Rebecca Ruwet, Liam Ruwet, Caitlyn Emerson Steinke, and Jakob Steinke; and niece: Lillian Robert Zilles of Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Mildred Finke and Lida Wilson; niece: Lois Barbreck; and nephew: Lloyd Parkson. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor. Visitation will be Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with full military graveside rites conducted by the John A. Fader American Legion Post #114 of Oak Harbor. A bereavement luncheon will follow at the Salem Township Hall in Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Ohio Veterans Home Special Care Activities Fund.
