Emerson C. Fillmore

Emerson C. Fillmore 89, of Oak Harbor, died at his home Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 21, 1924, in Harris Township, Elmore, Ohio, to Edward and Margareth Dipner Fillmore. On April 22, 1950, in Oak Harbor, he married Marjorie Hameister and she survives. Emerson was a farmer all his life. He was involved with the rodeo when he was younger. He worked for Roy E. Barnes a few years and as an over the road truck driver for Red Star. He worked with horses in Genoa at High Point Stables. Emerson was the owner and operator of the Lazy U Grain & Dairy Farm for 30 years. He also owned and bred draft ponies for a number of years. Emerson then worked for Charlie Jones for almost 30 years. Some of his happiest hours included driving tractor and he loved spending time with the great grandchildren. Emerson was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. In addition to his wife, Marge, Emerson is survived by his children, Dan Karen Fillmore of Oak Harbor, Sandra Patricia Bernhard Fillmore of Columbus, Theodore Fillmore of Maumee and Crystal Cleary of Oak Harbor; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother, Luther Rella Fillmore of Stroudsburg, PA, sisters, Joyce Willis of Allen Park, MI, and Margie Shinn of Chambersburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Wilbert, and sisters, Velma, Violet, Carol and infant sister, Angeline. A memorial service for Emerson will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, 430 S. Main St., Clyde, OH 43410 or St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor.
