ELVEST PERRY SANDLIN passed away peacefully early Thursday morning at his home at Perrysburg Commons on the 15th of October. His family was with him during his final days and lovingly supported him throughout the years. Elvest thought of Perrysburg Commons as his home and they treated him like he was family. Elvest accepted Christ as his Savior before he passed away and will be waiting patiently for his family in Heaven. Elvest was born on Christmas, December 25, 1940. He was known as a strong willed child with a mischevious smile, who was lovingly referred to as “Junior”. Elvest loved to draw, act in school plays and watch “sci-fi and monster” movies. He attended Waite High School and enlisted in the US Army in 1957 at the age of 17. He finished his GED in the service and began his military adventure by serving overseas in France and West Germany, and played on the US Army European Theater Football team. Elvest also served on the Asian continent and served several tours of duty in the Republic of Korea and saw combat in Vietnam. Elvest suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after his tours in Vietnam, but took refuge in his love for watching movies and family. Elvest’s love for movies was passed on to his son and grandchildren, and currently, one of his grandsons is studying film at Bowling Green State University to eventually become a writer and director in Hollywood.
