Elsa Knight Bruno

January 19, 1935 — December 22, 2009

Elsa Knight Bruno, 74, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009. All who knew and loved her will miss her dearly. Her parents were Robert L. Knight and Helga Angelique Knight. She was born in Red Bank, New Jersey; she came to Toledo in 1947 when her father joined the staff of the Ohio Citizens Trust Department. She married Dominic M. Bruno in April 1956, joined him in Stuttgart, Germany six months later. She became a part of Army Group 56-F2 in all their reunions and interim meetings in Naples, Florida. Elsa obtained her Master degree in Early Childhood Education after her children started school. She taught for Sylvania City Schools for 29 years as a kindergarten teacher. Besides her husband Dom, she is survived by her son Michael Renee Bruno, daughter Elsa Scott Eckart, son Andrew Sharon Bruno, and Robert Bruno. Surviving is her sister, Martha Corbin, residing in Alpharetta, GA. Her brother Robert E. Knight predeceased her. Also surviving are her six grandchildren: Nicholas Bruno, Peter Bruno, Alexander Bruno, Anne Eckart, Margaret Eckart, and Scotty Eckart Jr. Elsas passion was writing. Her first book: Punctuation Celebration was published July 21, 2009, by Henry Holt and Company. She also was a regular contributor to Highlights and Lady Bug magazines. Her strength was her perseverance, her knowledge that her material was time tested in her 29 year career as a kindergarten teacher. Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Christ Presbyterian Church, Monday, December 28th at eleven oclock, with Thomas Schwartz officiating. The family thanks Dr. Jeffrey Muler for his care for almost five years. Thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially nurse Maureen Kratzer, for the care she gave Elsa on her last day on this Earth. Contributions may be made to the Toledo Community Foundation, 300 Madison Ave. Suite 1300, Toledo, OH 43604, envisioned in 1972 by Elsas father, Robert L. Knight.
