Ellener Brinkman

Ellener M. Brinkman, age 97, peacefully and gracefully departed this life in the presence of those who cherished her on Tuesday, January 8, 2007 at the Toledo Hospital. Ellener was born to David and Pearl Hahn on May 28, 1910 in Toledo. She married Harold Knapp in 1929 and later married Edwin Brinkman in 1955. A longtime member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Ellener was also a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church downtown, and a former member of St. James Lutheran Church and Advent Lutheran Church, both in Sylvania. She had many hobbies and interests including sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, cooking, word search puzzles, playing cards and playing bingo at Swan Creek. Ellener was also a talented organist and often gave lessons in the community. Ellener was a retired bookkeeper from Maumee Malible. Ellener is survived by her son, Jack Ruth Knapp; grandchildren, Mark Debbie, John Cindy, Jeff Dalee, and Chris Cheryl Knapp, Denise Phillips, M. Gregory Judy Brigman, Amy Brigman and Jodi Ron Walters; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Hahn; sister-in-law, Helen Hahn; and daughter-in-law, Judith Knapp-Smith. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Knapp and Edwin Brinkman; children, Dennis Knapp and Sandra Brigman; grandson, Ronald Knapp; and brother, Frederick Hahn. Ellener loved family gatherings and even in failing health made every effort to be present with the ones who loved her the most. Grandma, your bright blue eyes, quick wit, words of wisdom and unconditional love will be missed. Great-grandma, you have held our tiny hands for a while, but will hold our hearts forever. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
