Ellen Uthoff Chapman Fredericks

Ellen Fredericks, 99 ½ of Perrysburg, Ohio, died Friday, February 17, 2012, in her home. She was born in Perrysburg on, June 27, 1912, to William and Martha (Kirkland) Uthoff. She lived in the same home in Perrysburg her entire life. She graduated from Perrysburg HS in 1930. Her sons, stepdaughter, and most of her grandchildren also graduated from PHS. She first married Joel S. Chapman and later Sam Fredericks who both preceded her in death. Ellen worked for the Rossford Ordinance and the Toledo Scale Company as an Executive Secretary of engineering. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg and the Perrysburg Senior Center. She loved playing bridge and participated with several bridge groups. She was also an avid reader, gardener and bird watcher. Ellen played bingo and enjoyed bowling and going to casinos on bus trips. She made many quilts for her family and also braided rugs. After retiring, she spent much time traveling to visit family. These trips took her all around the US, including Hawaii and Guam. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan at their sporting events. Ellen is survived by her sons, Joel W. (Mary Janet) Chapman of Austin, TX and Gary (Karen) Chapman of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) McDonald, David (Jen) Chapman, Andrew (Laura) Chapman and Dana Chapman; great-grandson Benjamin Chapman; and step granddaughters Cindy Brock and Peggy (Brock) Reiter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elmo Uthoff, and stepdaughter Bev (Lynn) Brock. Friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 23, 2012, with Pastor Barbara Esterly officiating. Burial will be in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or The First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg.
