Elizabeth Betty Thompson

Elizabeth Betty Thompson, age 86, of Sylvania Township, passed away at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania on Monday, February 14, 2011 with her children at her side. She was born on September 23, 1924 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Charles and Elizabeth Waldron. Betty graduated from St. Josephs Mercy School of Nursing, Sioux City in 1943, earning a degree as a Registered Nurse. On December 28, 1946, she married William A. Bill Thompson, also of Emmetsburg. After moving several times, they finally settled in Toledo in 1960. After a six year career as a registered nurse, Betty became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child. Over the next twenty years she raised her children and found time to volunteer at various church and school functions. She was a member at Christ the King Church. She was an avid sports fan and knew the stats on all of her favorite players. She played league tennis until the age of 77 and belonged to several bridge groups. Betty was a wonderful mother of two and a loving grandmother of three. She is survived by her children, Diane and Scott Patty and her grandchildren, Billy, Patrick, and Anna Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She will be greatly missed. Friends may visit with the family at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Thursday from 11 am until the time of the service which will be at 1 pm. Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park.
