Elizabeth Chapman (Herbert) Sheperak, age 80, passed away on November 5, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She lived in Sylvania for over twenty years. Liz was born on April 26, 1941, to John Lawrence Herbert and Virginia Worthington Dorsey Herbert in Washington, DC. She grew-up on Reservoir Road in The Palisades neighborhood of Washington DC and was a 1960 graduate of St. Cecilia’s Academy. After Liz’s mother passed away in 1944, her father remarried, and Mary Alice Herbert was a significant influence in her life. Growing-up, Liz’s family was a “his, hers and ours” group, with two sisters, Anne Roesell (Alex) and Mary Jane Herbert; two stepbrothers, Richard Tyler and James Tyler (Diane) and a half-brother Carrick Herbert (Linda). Liz also had a very close relationship growing-up with her grandmother, Cora Chapman Dorsey, and her great-aunt Minnie Chapman Goldsborough. Liz started her professional career as a secretary at the US State Department USAID, where she met Dale Adams. They married in 1966, and had two sons, Greg Adams (Susan) of Wilmette, IL and Chris Adams (Kelli) of Telford, PA. After raising her sons, Liz returned to work at Dana Corp, Max Davis Jewelers, WSPD Radio, Jacobson’s Stores and JC Penney. Liz was a hard worker who took great pride in her work ethic and recognition for a job well done. She continued to work full-time up until a few weeks before her passing. She loved books, home improvement TV, shopping and arguing with her sons about politics. She was a lifelong Catholic, and most recently attended church at St Joseph Parish in Sylvania and Christ the King Parish in Toledo. In her spare time, she volunteered at the Discovery Shop supporting the American Cancer Society in Sylvania. She was an eternal optimist, even throughout her illness. Liz is survived by her sons, Greg and his wife Susan and Chris and his wife Kelli, her sisters Anne and Mary Jane, brother James and his wife Diane and brother Carrick and his wife Linda. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Avery and Katherine Adams of Wilmette, IL and Andrew Adams of Telford, PA. She was preceded in death by her mother Virginia, father John, stepmother Mary Alice, brother Richard and brother-in-law Alex. Services will be in Washington, DC and burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown Washington, DC. The family appreciates any gifts in her honor made to the American Cancer Society.
