Elizabeth Bentley Rank

March 9, 1930 — January 29, 2018

Elizabeth Bentley Rank died on January 29 surrounded by her family; she will be missed by all who knew her. Elizabeth was born in 1930 in Perrysburg Ohio to James Bentley and Jane Spitzer Bentley. She went to grade school at the Perrysburg public schools and Maumee Valley Country Day School, attended high school at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. From there she went to Smith College, where she majored in political economics and was a member of the Glee Club. After her graduation in 1952, she married her childhood friend, Duane Stranahan Jr., with whom she shared a birthday. A year later she gave birth to her son Duane, and then joined her husband in Tokyo where he was stationed with the Army. After she returned to Perrysburg, she gave birth to two daughters, Sarah and Page. Elizabeth loved music, art and books. She was a member of the Perrysburg Garden Club, volunteered at the Way Public Library, and was a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art. She was also an intrepid member of the London Ladies Club, a group of friends who enjoyed annual expeditions to London. After her first marriage, Elizabeth married Dr. John B. Rank, a surgeon at the Toledo Hospital. After he retired, they traveled together and enjoyed winters in North Palm Beach Florida. She is survived by her children: Duane and Stephanie Stranahan III, Sarah Stranahan, Dr. Page Armstrong, Lacey and Jim Fix, John and Cathy Rank Jr., and her eleven grandchildren. Elizabeth was a witty, charming, and gracious woman; one wished to sit up straighter in her company. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 West Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio, 43351, with Fr. Jeffry Bunke, officiating. Burial will be held privately at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Toledo Museum of Art.
