Elizabeth R. Mechel

Betty (Huss-Olzsewski) Mechel, age 92, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Rosary Care Center in Sylvania. Betty was born in Toledo on February 4, 1924 to the late Elizabeth and Joseph Huss. A graduate of Whitney Vocational School, Betty worked at various stores around Toledo including Kroger, A P, Hickory Farms, Lanes Drugstore, Peoples Drugstore, and Eastern Drycleaners. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, square dancing and line dancing, playing cards, visiting casinos, and traveling. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was very devoted to her faith. Betty was preceded in death by husbands, Stanley Olszewski and John Mechel; son, James Olszewski; and 8 siblings. She is survived by children, Rev. Ronald W. Olszewski, OSFS and Jacqueline (Jeff) VanDemark; daughter-in-law, Margaret Olszewski; grandchildren, Cynthia (Robb) Poolos, Michael (Colleen) Olszewski, Deborah (Christopher) Spegele, Pamela (Jim) Sanford, Justin (Rebecca) VanDemark, Jonathan VanDemark and Jennifer (Joshua Diroff) VanDemark; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Hope Poolos, Kevin and Maggie Olszewski, Adam and Matthew Spegele, and Grace and James Sanford. Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017 from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43623 on Saturday at 11:00am.
