Elizabeth “Betty” A. Haas, died Monday, June 9, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born at home in Berkey, Ohio on July 15, 1931 to Frank and Alice (Storeholder) Stein. She was the fifth of seven children and the fifth of their children who lived to celebrate a 90th birthday, all born in different houses.
She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1949 from Portage Township School, graduating with seven other students. Her grade school years were spent in Dowling-Dunbridge Schools. After graduation, she worked in the Service Dept. of Montgomery Ward in Bowling Green and the Rossford Ordinance Dept.
She attended Northwest Ohio Practical Nursing School in Toledo and worked at Detwiler Hospital in Wauseon until her marriage to Duke Haas on November 27,1954, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green, Ohio.
She considered her greatest achievement in life to be her 63-year marriage to Duke and the seven children who resulted. Betty always made time for family and loved spending time with her children and many grandchildren. She loved making every event special, from large family holidays to extravagant sleepovers with her grandkids. She traveled across the country by way of Duke’s hand-built motor home. They walked the white sandy beaches of Florida, travelled Out West in search of a rodeo and headed Northeast to admire the fall foliage. Together, they hunted mushrooms, camped w/ kids in tow and took grandchildren on “safari”. Her family is lucky to have enjoyed many wonderful adventures with her over the years. She was very generous with her many blessings. Betty leaves many cherished memories in the people she brought together.
