Elinor Zekany

Our beloved Elinor Zekany passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the age of 99. Elinor was born on June 4, 1925 in Port Clinton, Ohio and married Andy Zekany, Jr. on January 26, 1952 in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Marblehead. She was valedictorian of the Port Clinton High School class of 1943 and attended Tiffin Business School. She was a school librarian for Portage Elementary School where she inspired the love of reading in many young hearts. Elinor’s lifelong passions included tennis, piano playing, bridge, travel and photography. She was the organist for Peace Lutheran Church since she was a teen and later in life at St. Paul’s Slovak Lutheran Church, both in Port Clinton. She was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Progressive Mothers’ Club, Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, Sarah’s Circle of Peace Lutheran Church, a local social Bridge Club and the Port Clinton Yacht Club where she enjoyed the Wet Ones water aerobics group.

She is loved and missed by son Andrew J. (Kimberly) Zekany of Dallas, TX; daughter Kay (Dan Klos) Zekany of Lake Charles, LA; daughter Diane (Larry) Dunbar of Toledo, OH; grandson Andrew R. Zekany of New York, NY; granddaughter Emily (Garrett) Hicks of New York, NY; grandson Darin (Nathalia) Dunbar with baby Louie of Tampa, FL; grandson Devin Dunbar of Austin, TX; and sister-in-law, Betty Miller, of San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by husband Andy Zekany, Jr., sister Joanna Moran, sister Evelyn Kleinhans, and parents Emma (Kliick) and Karl Krepel who immigrated from Germany in 1924.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 3-5 and 6-8 pm at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton. The body will lie in repose on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 Jefferson Street, Port Clinton from 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Dane Meuschke officiating.
