Eleanor L. Walter, age 89, of Toledo, died February 4, 2018 at Elizabeth Scott Care Center, Maumee. She was born October 19, 1928 in Pomeroy to the late John Albert and Ethel May (Pullins) Smith. She married Homer R. Walter on April 13, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2002. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death. Eleanor was a registered nurse for Drs. Smith, Houck, Lloyd and Lawrence, in an oral surgery practice, for more than 30 years. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and going out to lunch with her friends. Eleanor also collected Kewpie dolls. She was a longtime member, past president, vice president and treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary Post 132, a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and MENSA. Eleanor found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Melinda Walczak (Mark) and Suella Walter (Martin Backler); granddaughter, Adrienne Armstrong; and great grandchildren, Audrey and William Armstrong. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018. Interment will be at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
