Eleanor Louise Stokes passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2021 at Kingston Sylvania Memory Care surrounded with love and just 60 days short of her 101st birthday. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 6, 1920 to Fredrick and Achsah Siemon and was proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years Norman W. Stokes jr. in 2002. Eleanor was a graduate of Libbey High School and spent a lifetime devoted to her husband and two sons. Following Norman’s retirement from the Toledo Edison Company the two retired to their dream home in Northport Michigan overlooking Grand Traverse Bay, returning to Ottawa Hills just prior to Norman's passing. Norm & Eleanor traveled extensively including numerous trips to Europe, enjoyed birdwatching and she an accomplished watercolorist finding comfort in solitude, family and close friends. Remarkably with the help of family Eleanor was able to live out her life at home alone until she was 100 years old. Independent, peaceful & devoted best describe her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents & brother Robert. Eleanor is survived by her children: Thomas (Darlene) & Gary (Linda) of Toledo. Grandchildren: Traci (Kevin) Gravelle, Troy (Lisa) Stokes of Toledo, Ryan (Brandon Zink) Stokes of Charleston SC. & Laura (Chad) Berkey of San Diego, CA. Named “Grandma Bird” by her loving great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Ethan, Elise, Victoria, Anna, Wyatt, Eli & Boone. Services and internment at Toledo Memorial Park will be private.
