Elaine June Garrett, age 87, of Toledo, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at OakLeaf Village in Sylvania Township. Elaine was born August 18, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Louis and Minnie Rathke Knocks. Elaine was a graduate of Libbey High School. She was homemaker and drove school bus for Washington Local Schools for more than 30 years, a job she absolutely loved. In her free time she enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, and was renowned for her outstanding coffee cake. A kindhearted and caring wife, mother and grandmother, her family and their needs were always Elaines primary focus. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Michael Susan Garrett, Linda Zachel and Tamara Robert Shoup; grandchildren, Gary Nikki Zachel, Ted Suzanne Garrett, Stephen Zachel Jr., Laura Nate Schmitt, John Brenda Zachel and Ryan Shoup; eleven great grandchildren; and sister and best friend, Jean Landrith. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Leroy Garrett, on October 15, 1989. Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd., where funeral services to celebrate Elaines life will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Special thanks to OakLeaf Village for their compassionate care of Elaine.
