Edwin Jacobs

Edwin Francis Jacobs, 84, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday June 9, 2021 at Charter Senior Living Center of Oak Openings, Sylvania, Ohio. Ed was born on November 3, 1936 to Dody and Martha (Gaynier) Jacobs of Monroe, Michigan and graduated from high school in the last one-room schoolhouse in Monroe County, Michigan. An Army Veteran of the Cold War, he was stationed in Berlin, Germany when the Berlin Wall was erected; manning a post, rifle, and bayonet at the ready, as the events of that construction occurred in front of him. After military service, Ed was a manager for the FW Woolworth merchantile stores having successfully managed the stores in Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan until 1973. However, he retired as a Realtor with the Danberry Realty Company of Toledo in 2005. Ed was a quiet, kind, and generous man giving all that he could from the heart. His passions were his wife, Jean, of 57 years, golf, and teaching his sons all that he could about carpentry, painting and auto mechanics. Ed was a charter member of the Westgate Optimist Club where he volunteered his time and energy to their many community activities. He truly loved his family, friends, and special neighbors and will be deeply and dearly missed by one and all. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne (James) Bork; brothers, James (Pat) Jacobs, Gene (Theresa) Jacobs, Glen (Pat) Jacobs; and wife, Laura “Jean” Jacobs. Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Scott (Shawn) Jacobs and Richard (Carol) Barrett; grandson, Michael (Erin) Barrett; great-grandchildren, Bodhi and Althea Mae Barrett; and sister, Mary (Ethern) Lambert. Visitation will be held on June 17, 2021, from 10:00 to 1:00 at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio. Entombment will be held at Toledo Memorial Park immediately following. The family would like to thank Charter Senior Living Center of Oak Openings and ProMedica Ebeid Hospice who assisted in his care over the last few months.
