Edward Harold Zinn

February 11, 1942 — January 25, 2024

Edward H. Zinn passed away at the age of 81 on January 25, 2024. He was born February 11, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward H. and Betty (Ada Elizabeth Hughes) Zinn. He lived in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and Longmeadow, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Longmeadow High School.


After graduating from Brown University, class of 1964, and Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, he worked from 1966 until 1979 for Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While at school in Philadelphia, he met his future wife, Barbara Morgan Harris, and they were married on July 1, 1967.


In 1979, he and Barb moved to Toledo, Ohio where he was employed by Owens Corning. After working in a number of marketing research positions, he became Director, Global Business Research until he retired in 1998. The organizations which he directed provided support for design and product development, marketing communications, strategic marketing planning, economic and market analysis and forecasting. While working at Owens Corning, he was active in and became president of several professional organizations. After retirement, he became a board member of Sylvania Community Service, and served as Board President until leaving in 2011.


Ed was preceded in death by his wife Barbara of 38 years in 2005, by his mother in 1960, and by his father in 1967. He is survived by his loving companion, Carol Morrison, his son David Zinn, his wife Nichole and grandson Alex, by his daughter Cynthia, her husband Eric Meisel and grandchildren Grace, Noah and Liam, by his brother Richard Zinn and his wife Nancy. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and other family members.


Ed enjoyed living life to the fullest. As Papa, he lovingly encouraged his grandchildren to live life without regrets. He relished many trips to Sanibel Island with friends and family. He traveled to many places around the world with his wife, family and then companion, Carol, and other friends. In his free time, he loved playing golf, tennis, walking, reading, cooking for friends and other outdoor activities.


The family will hold visiting hours Tuesday, January 30 from 4-7 at Walker Funeral Home in Sylvania Ohio, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623. A private burial will be held at a later date.


Donations for the celebration of life may be made to the National Audubon Society or The Nature Conservancy.
