Edward Rutkowski, 89 1/2, just 3 days shy of his 90th birthday from Maumee, Ohio died Monday, September 11, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1933, in Fairmont, West Virginia to Frank and Anna (Ekstowicz) Rutkowski and moved to Toledo when he was just 2 years old. The youngest of four siblings. Edward attended Saint Adalbert grade school and graduated from Woodward High School in 1951. Edward enlisted in the U.S Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Helena and serving as an Electrician Mate. When he was in the Navy he visited China, Japan, and the Philippines. Edward worked for Toledo Edison in Systems Operations responsible for the operation of the generators, substations, transmission lines and administration of contracts for the purchase and sale of power for service territory of 25,000 square miles and retiring in 1989 at the age of 56 years old.
During Edwards lifetime he immersed himself in Photography, Painting, Hunting, Fishing, Wine Making, Cooking, Stamp Collecting and Remote-Control Airplanes with Weak Signals and Flying Tigers. He was recognized by the Photographic Society of America as 1 of the top 100 Amateur Photographers in the world. Life member of VFW Post 5530.
Ed was a former parishioner of Saint Adalbert's, Regina Coeli and Saint Joseph's of Maumee, Catholic Church's. Edward was a Husband, Father, Dziadz, Uncle, Neighbor and Friend. Edward lived a long and rewarding life.
Ed is survived of his devoted wife of 62 years, Joanne; as well as their 3 children; daughters, Julia Thomas (James), Lori Heintschel (Jeff Lehmann), and son, Steven Rutkowski (Susan). Dziadz was blessed with 5 grandchildren who he admired and who will miss him deeply. Mallory Horstman (Derek), Melissa Horstman, Jessica and Brian Rutkowski and Matthew (Ziggy) Thomas, and three great grandchildren, Logan and Lydia Horstman and Aiden Horstman.
Family and friends may visit Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Maison-Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537. Rosary at 5:30. Funeral Services will begin with prayers on Monday at 10:00 am at the funeral home, and continue with the Funeral Mass at Saint Joseph Maumee Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway Street, at 10:30 am. The memorial will conclude with a Military Committal Service at Resurrection Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Hospice Northwest Ohio, Visting Angels or Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
